Marc Harshman was born October 1, 1950, in Randolph County, IN, the son of William L. Harshman and Janice Maloon Wells. In August 1976 he married Cheryl Ryan (a librarian and writer). They have a daughter, Sarah Jayne. Harshman received a B.A. from Bethany College in 1973, an M.A.R. from Yale University Divinity School in 1975, and an M.A. from the University of Pittsburgh in 1978. He lives in West Virginia.
